Natural ingredients can always impact the eventual color of candles. Because fragrance oils include ingredients like citrus oils and cinnamon that vary from batch to batch, you might find your candles discoloring over time. This is nothing to worry about. This does not affect the overall performance of the candle at all, it’s just a common variable when using natural ingredients. We do not use any additives or dyes in our candles to ensure the cleanest burn.

Absolutely. Our fragrance oils are non-toxic and free from carcinogens and other hazardous chemicals commonly found in fragrance oils.

When you don’t trim the wick prior to burning your candle then it may start to produce soot and/or black smoke. Always trim the wick 1/4” before lighting fresh or previously burnt candles. Avoid burning for longer than 4 hours at a time. The longer you burn a candle, the longer the flame becomes creating more smoke and carbon buildup on the wick. Avoid burning candles in high draft areas as this may cause candles to burn unevenly and can create smoke.

While paraffin wax is refined from crude oil, soy wax is made from soybeans, a completely renewable resource grown here in the US. Compared to paraffin, soy wax burns cleaner with no petrol-carbon soot. Soy wax also burns slower than paraffin, so soy wax candles last longer.

If your wick is trimmed too short, this could affect the edge to edge melt pool. You can blow it out and re-light, without trimming, once it’s cooled and see if that corrects the burn. Also, if you’re burning a candle in a high draft area, this could negatively affect the burn cycle.

This is quite common with soy wax when rate of cooling is inconsistent. Good news, it is a by product of all natural wax and does not affect the performance of the candle.

Phthalates, or phthalate esters, are esters of phthalic acid. They are used to dissolve raw materials when making fragrance oils. Recently, there have been concerns that high levels of phthalates can cause a host of health issues. Higher Love Candle Co. has worked on completely eliminating phthalates from any and all of our products.

Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. All soy wax used by Higher Love has been harvested in the US.

This is good practice for any candle and is meant to prolong the candle’s burn time. A longer wick creates a larger flame, a larger flame melts the wax faster, and the wax melts faster than the wick burns away. So the longer your candle burns, the larger the flame gets, causing your candle to melt faster and faster. Keeping the wick trimmed and burning 4 hours at a time slows everything down so you get a longer burn life.

Additionally, burning for 4 hours at a time allows for a full melt pool, edge to edge in your container, creating an overall better scent throw. The melted wax is what gives off the scent, not the flame itself.
